Mutech company profile

Mutech was established in 1985 to offer contract services in electronic manufacturing and product development.

An early decision was taken to make use of the then fledgling surface mount technology in the development of an electronic solution for the hotel security market. This development resulted in the hugely successful Digilock® range of electronic locks, distributed throughout the world by SMP Security.

Since that time the company has operated at the leading edge of the electronics industry, involved in the design and manufacture of such prestigious products as Amstrad's Pen Pad, Acer's first hand-held PC and Checkpoint Meto retail security equipment.

Design and Development

The experience Mutech has gained over a long and successful partnership with many customers allows us to offer our expertise with confidence. The advantages of operating a complete service, from conceptual design, through development, to full scale manufacture, have time and again proven their worth.

The design services we offer include: electronic circuit design; FPGA design; PCB layout; enclosure design; embedded and PC software.

We pride ourselves in providing our customers with realistic solutions, which turn into successful and profitable products. The process of improving quality and time to market through Design For Manufacture and Assembly is instilled in the company's philosophy.

Mutech's design team are a vibrant and creative source of ideas that our customers consistently come back to.

Software development

Mutech's designers have wide ranging experience in software development on a variety of platforms from PC applications to embedded micro-processors.

Past projects have included database development, data logging, comms, GUI design, precision industrial control and security applications amongst many others.

At Mutech, we believe that the most important part of development is understanding our customers' requirements. We place emphasis on building a strong working relationship with you and developing a thorough understanding of your market.

Consequently, we have an excellent track record in providing both initial solutions and long term support for our software.

Electronic Hardware Design

Involvement in an ever widening variety of product fields gives us the ability to find the best solution for any design.

Our design team has expertise in many design fields, from audio circuits using valve technology, through logic design using FPGAs, to high speed signal and RF circuits.

All our hardware experience comes from designing in practical situations; because we also manufacture, consideration of manufacturing and commercial aspects of product development are a natural part of our design methodology.

PCB Design

Mutech has been operating a PCB CAD service since 1987 and has developed a highly successful approach to PCB design which yields an impressive first-shot success rate with even the most complex of circuits.

Our hands-on understanding of the manufacturing processes used to assemble PCBs allows us to provide solutions to the most exacting demands of product design.

PCB design is not simply an exercise in joining the dots, and our designers bring a creative approach to the design process, backed up by a thorough design auditing procedure developed with in-house CAD utilities.

Mechanical Design

As part of the product design cycle, Mutech offer a highly skilled service in mechanical design, from industrial housings to consumer product cases.

Using the latest 3D modelling software, and with years of experience dealing with tool manufacturers, Mutech can provide solutions for prototypes and small and large volume production.

Electronic Manufacturing Services

Mutech assembles surface mount and mixed technology PCBs using a CAM controlled surface mount assembly line, operated by highly skilled staff. The manufacturing service includes purchasing, tooling, CAM preparation, assembly, inspection, test and packaging.

We can respond very quickly to your requirements without compromising quality due to our custom fully integrated CAM software, coupled with clearly defined operating procedures and quality system. We have developed extensive software to enable fast and accurate import of your data into our computer system.

We can also provide high quality testing services, with in-house ATE linked to our network for data integrity.

Surface Mount Assembly

Mutech has been designing and manufacturing using surface mount technology since the company started in 1985. Our staff are all highly trained, experienced and committed, working within a company-wide culture of continuous improvement.

Our three Quad pick and place machines, linked to the company's CAM system gives precision automatic placement, including 0402, fine pitch, quad flat packs and BGA technologies. Soldering processes employ no-clean low residue flux and all handling is in an ESD controlled environment.

Our IT staff have developed an in-house CAM system which makes efficient use of your data to provide fast and accurate setup of our automated assembly line.

Through-hole electronic assembly

Although not Mutech's main line of production work, we also have experience in conventional through-hole technologies, particularly useful when assembling mixed technology PCBs.

Test facilities

Our high tech ATE installation, coupled with in-house CAM and data management systems, enables us to provide product test to exacting standards.

The ATE can provide full functional and in-circuit testing of PCB assemblies and cables to your specification.

In addition, our production staff are experienced in manual testing and fault finding techniques, often essential where automatic testing is not possible.

Fast Turnaround

Mutech's automated, fully integrated system allows us to provide fast turnaround of both small and large batches.

We can input your data into our CAD/CAM front-end using our in-house developed filters and translators, with tools for checking component data against PCB artwork to ensure assembly that is right first time.

Our dynamic stock system gives us the flexibility to incorporate your free-issue components with our own stock, especially useful for those urgent prototype assembly jobs.

Purchasing

Mutech has acquired vast experience in the sourcing of components, building strong relationships with manufacturers and distributors both locally and around the world.

With our sophisticated in-house inventory control system and detailed production planning, we can provide confidence in scheduling and quality of supply.

Our design expertise enables us to offer you exacting specification and sourcing of custom components, including procurement and import of volume product from international sources

Stock

Mutech carries an extensive stock of standard components, including 0603 and 0805 passives, discrete semiconductors, ICs etc.

This enables us to achieve fast turnaround on small and large batches.
